21. 너희가 알지 못하였느냐 너희가 듣지 못하였느냐 태초부터 너희에게 전하지 아니하였느냐 땅의 기초가 창조될 때부터 너희가 깨닫지 못하였느냐

 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded?

22. 그는 땅 위 궁창에 앉으시나니 땅에 사는 사람들은 메뚜기 같으니라 그가 하늘을 차일 같이 펴셨으며 거주할 천막 같이 치셨고

 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.

23. 귀인들을 폐하시며 세상의 사사들을 헛되게 하시나니

 He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.

24. 그들은 겨우 심기고 겨우 뿌려졌으며 그 줄기가 겨우 땅에 뿌리를 박자 곧 하나님이 입김을 부시니 그들은 말라 회오리바람에 불려 가는 초개 같도다

 No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.

25. 거룩하신 이가 이르시되 그런즉 너희가 나를 누구에게 비교하여 나를 그와 동등하게 하겠느냐 하시니라

 "To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.

26. 너희는 눈을 높이 들어 누가 이 모든 것을 창조하였나 보라 주께서는 수효대로 만상을 이끌어 내시고 그들의 모든 이름을 부르시나니 그의 권세가 크고 그의 능력이 강하므로 하나도 빠짐이 없느니라

 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

27. 야곱아 어찌하여 네가 말하며 이스라엘아 네가 이르기를 내 길은 여호와께 숨겨졌으며 내 송사는 내 하나님에게서 벗어난다 하느냐

 Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"?

28. 너는 알지 못하였느냐 듣지 못하였느냐 영원하신 하나님 여호와, 땅 끝까지 창조하신 이는 피곤하지 않으시며 곤비하지 않으시며 명철이 한이 없으시며

 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

29. 피곤한 자에게는 능력을 주시며 무능한 자에게는 힘을 더하시나니

 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

30. 소년이라도 피곤하며 곤비하며 장정이라도 넘어지며 쓰러지되

 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

31. 오직 여호와를 앙망하는 자는 새 힘을 얻으리니 독수리가 날개치며 올라감 같을 것이요 달음박질하여도 곤비하지 아니하겠고 걸어가도 피곤하지 아니하리로다

 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. 

21. 그들이 가버나움에 들어가니라 예수께서 곧 안식일에 회당에 들어가 가르치시매

 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.

22. 뭇 사람이 그의 교훈에 놀라니 이는 그가 가르치시는 것이 권위 있는 자와 같고 서기관들과 같지 아니함일러라

 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.

23. 마침 그들의 회당에 더러운 귀신 들린 사람이 있어 소리 질러 이르되

 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out,

24. 나사렛 예수여 우리가 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까 우리를 멸하러 왔나이까 나는 당신이 누구인 줄 아노니 하나님의 거룩한 자니이다

 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"

25. 예수께서 꾸짖어 이르시되 잠잠하고 그 사람에게서 나오라 하시니

 "Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!"

26. 더러운 귀신이 그 사람에게 경련을 일으키고 큰 소리를 지르며 나오는지라

 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

27. 다 놀라 서로 물어 이르되 이는 어찜이냐 권위 있는 새 교훈이로다 더러운 귀신들에게 명한즉 순종하는도다 하더라

 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him."

28. 예수의 소문이 곧 온 갈릴리 사방에 퍼지더라

 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. 

43. 이튿날 예수께서 갈릴리로 나가려 하시다가 빌립을 만나 이르시되 나를 따르라 하시니

  The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, "Follow me."

44. 빌립은 안드레와 베드로와 한 동네 벳새다 사람이라

Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.

45. 빌립이 나다나엘을 찾아 이르되 모세가 율법에 기록하였고 여러 선지자가 기록한 그이를 우리가 만났으니 요셉의 아들 나사렛 예수니라

  Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

46. 나다나엘이 이르되 나사렛에서 무슨 선한 것이 날 수 있느냐 빌립이 이르되 와서 보라 하니라

  "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip.

47. 예수께서 나다나엘이 자기에게 오는 것을 보시고 그를 가리켜 이르시되 보라 이는 참으로 이스라엘 사람이라 그 속에 간사한 것이 없도다

  When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false."

48. 나다나엘이 이르되 어떻게 나를 아시나이까 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 빌립이 너를 부르기 전에 네가 무화과나무 아래에 있을 때에 보았노라

  "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you."

49. 나다나엘이 대답하되 랍비여 당신은 하나님의 아들이시요 당신은 이스라엘의 임금이로소이다

  Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."

50. 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 내가 너를 무화과나무 아래에서 보았다 하므로 믿느냐 이보다 더 큰 일을 보리라

  Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that."

51. 또 이르시되 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 하늘이 열리고 하나님의 사자들이 인자 위에 오르락 내리락 하는 것을 보리라 하시니라

  He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." 

4.세례 요한이 광야에 이르러 죄 사함을 받게 하는 회개의 세례를 전파하니

  And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

5.온 유대 지방과 예루살렘 사람이 다 나아가 자기 죄를 자복하고 요단 강에서 그에게 세례를 받더라

  The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

6.요한은 낙타털 옷을 입고 허리에 가죽 띠를 띠고 메뚜기와 석청을 먹더라

  John wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

7.그가 전파하여 이르되 나보다 능력 많으신 이가 내 뒤에 오시나니 나는 굽혀 그의 신발끈을 풀기도 감당하지 못하겠노라

  And this was his message: "After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.

8.나는 너희에게 물로 세례를 베풀었거니와 그는 너희에게 성령으로 세례를 베푸시리라

  I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

9.그 때에 예수께서 갈릴리 나사렛으로부터 와서 요단 강에서 요한에게 세례를 받으시고

  At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

10.곧 물에서 올라오실새 하늘이 갈라짐과 성령이 비둘기 같이 자기에게 내려오심을 보시더니

  As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

11.하늘로부터 소리가 나기를 너는 내 사랑하는 아들이라 내가 너를 기뻐하노라 하시니라

  And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." 

22.모세의 법대로 정결예식의 날이 차매 아기를 데리고 예루살렘에 올라가니

  When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

23.이는 주의 율법에 쓴 바 첫 태에 처음 난 남자마다 주의 거룩한 자라 하리라 한 대로 아기를 주께 드리고

  (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"),

24.또 주의 율법에 말씀하신 대로 산비둘기 한 쌍이나 혹은 어린 집비둘기 둘로 제사하려 함이더라

  and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons."

25.예루살렘에 시므온이라 하는 사람이 있으니 이 사람은 의롭고 경건하여 이스라엘의 위로를 기다리는 자라 성령이 그 위에 계시더라

  Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

26.그가 주의 그리스도를 보기 전에는 죽지 아니하리라 하는 성령의 지시를 받았더니

  It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27.성령의 감동으로 성전에 들어가매 마침 부모가 율법의 관례대로 행하고자 하여 그 아기 예수를 데리고 오는지라

  Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,

28.시므온이 아기를 안고 하나님을 찬송하여 이르되

  Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

29.주재여 이제는 말씀하신 대로 종을 평안히 놓아 주시는도다

  "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.

30.내 눈이 주의 구원을 보았사오니

  For my eyes have seen your salvation,

31.이는 만민 앞에 예비하신 것이요

  which you have prepared in the sight of all people,

32.이방을 비추는 빛이요 주의 백성 이스라엘의 영광이니이다 하니

  a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."

33.그의 부모가 그에 대한 말들을 놀랍게 여기더라

  The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.

34.시므온이 그들에게 축복하고 그의 어머니 마리아에게 말하여 이르되 보라 이는 이스라엘 중 많은 사람을 패하거나 흥하게 하며 비방을 받는 표적이 되기 위하여 세움을 받았고

  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,

35.또 칼이 네 마음을 찌르듯 하리니 이는 여러 사람의 마음의 생각을 드러내려 함이니라 하더라

  so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

36.또 아셀 지파 바누엘의 딸 안나라 하는 선지자가 있어 나이가 매우 많았더라 그가 결혼한 후 일곱 해 동안 남편과 함께 살다가

  There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,

37.과부가 되고 팔십사 세가 되었더라 이 사람이 성전을 떠나지 아니하고 주야로 금식하며 기도함으로 섬기더니

  and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

38.마침 이 때에 나아와서 하나님께 감사하고 예루살렘의 속량을 바라는 모든 사람에게 그에 대하여 말하니라

  Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

39.주의 율법을 따라 모든 일을 마치고 갈릴리로 돌아가 본 동네 나사렛에 이르니라

  When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.

40.아기가 자라며 강하여지고 지혜가 충만하며 하나님의 은혜가 그의 위에 있더라

  And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. 

26. 여섯째 달에 천사 가브리엘이 하나님의 보내심을 받아 갈릴리 나사렛이란 동네에 가서

  In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,

27. 다윗의 자손 요셉이라 하는 사람과 약혼한 처녀에게 이르니 그 처녀의 이름은 마리아라

  to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

28. 그에게 들어가 이르되 은혜를 받은 자여 평안할지어다 주께서 너와 함께 하시도다 하니

  The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

29. 처녀가 그 말을 듣고 놀라 이런 인사가 어찌함인가 생각하매

  Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

30. 천사가 이르되 마리아여 무서워하지 말라 네가 하나님께 은혜를 입었느니라

  But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.

31. 보라 네가 잉태하여 아들을 낳으리니 그 이름을 예수라 하라

  You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.

32. 그가 큰 자가 되고 지극히 높으신 이의 아들이라 일컬어질 것이요 주 하나님께서 그 조상 다윗의 왕위를 그에게 주시리니

  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,

33. 영원히 야곱의 집을 왕으로 다스리실 것이며 그 나라가 무궁하리라

  and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

34. 마리아가 천사에게 말하되 나는 남자를 알지 못하니 어찌 이 일이 있으리이까

  "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

35. 천사가 대답하여 이르되 성령이 네게 임하시고 지극히 높으신 이의 능력이 너를 덮으시리니 이러므로 나실 바 거룩한 이는 하나님의 아들이라 일컬어지리라

  The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

36. 보라 네 친족 엘리사벳도 늙어서 아들을 배었느니라 본래 임신하지 못한다고 알려진 이가 이미 여섯 달이 되었나니

  Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.

37. 대저 하나님의 모든 말씀은 능하지 못하심이 없느니라

  For nothing is impossible with God."

38. 마리아가 이르되 주의 여종이오니 말씀대로 내게 이루어지이다 하매 천사가 떠나가니라

  "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her. 

1.    하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도의 복음의 시작이라

  The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

2.    선지자 이사야의 글에 보라 내가 내 사자를 네 앞에 보내노니 그가 네 길을 준비하리라

  It is written in Isaiah the prophet: "I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way"--

3.    광야에 외치는 자의 소리가 있어 이르되 너희는 주의 길을 준비하라 그의 오실 길을 곧게 하라 기록된 것과 같이

  "a voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"

4.    세례 요한이 광야에 이르러 죄 사함을 받게 하는 회개의 세례를 전파하니

24. 그 때에 그 환난 후 해가 어두워지며 달이 빛을 내지 아니하며

 "But in those days, following that distress, "'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;

25. 별들이 하늘에서 떨어지며 하늘에 있는 권능들이 흔들리리라

 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

26. 그 때에 인자가 구름을 타고 큰 권능과 영광으로 오는 것을 사람들이 보리라

 "At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

27. 또 그 때에 그가 천사들을 보내어 자기가 택하신 자들을 땅 끝으로부터 하늘 끝까지 사방에서 모으리라

 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

28. 무화과나무의 비유를 배우라 그 가지가 연하여지고 잎사귀를 내면 여름이 가까운 줄 아나니

 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.

29. 이와 같이 너희가 이런 일이 일어나는 것을 보거든 인자가 가까이 곧 문 앞에 이른 줄 알라

 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door.

30. 내가 진실로 너희에게 말하노니 이 세대가 지나가기 전에 이 일이 다 일어나리라

 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

31. 천지는 없어지겠으나 내 말은 없어지지 아니하리라

 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

32. 그러나 그 날과 그 때는 아무도 모르나니 하늘에 있는 천사들도, 아들도 모르고 아버지만 아시느니라

 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

33. 주의하라 깨어 있으라 그 때가 언제인지 알지 못함이라

 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.

34. 가령 사람이 집을 떠나 타국으로 갈 때에 그 종들에게 권한을 주어 각각 사무를 맡기며 문지기에게 깨어 있으라 명함과 같으니

 It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

35. 그러므로 깨어 있으라 집 주인이 언제 올는지 혹 저물 때일는지, 밤중일는지, 닭 울 때일는지, 새벽일는지 너희가 알지 못함이라

 "Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back--whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

36. 그가 홀연히 와서 너희가 자는 것을 보지 않도록 하라

 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.

37. 깨어 있으라 내가 너희에게 하는 이 말은 모든 사람에게 하는 말이니라 하시니라

 What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!'" 

1. 그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제물로 드리라 이는 너희가 드릴 영적 예배니라

  Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

2. 너희는 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라

  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

3. 내게 주신 은혜로 말미암아 너희 각 사람에게 말하노니 마땅히 생각할 그 이상의 생각을 품지 말고 오직 하나님께서 각 사람에게 나누어 주신 믿음의 분량대로 지혜롭게 생각하라

  For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

4.  우리가 한 몸에 많은 지체를 가졌으나 모든 지체가 같은 기능을 가진 것이 아니니

  Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,

5. 이와 같이 우리 많은 사람이 그리스도 안에서 한 몸이 되어 서로 지체가 되었느니라

  so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

6. 우리에게 주신 은혜대로 받은 은사가 각각 다르니 혹 예언이면 믿음의 분수대로,

  We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.

7. 혹 섬기는 일이면 섬기는 일로, 혹 가르치는 자면 가르치는 일로,

  If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;

8. 혹 위로하는 자면 위로하는 일로, 구제하는 자는 성실함으로, 다스리는 자는 부지런함으로, 긍휼을 베푸는 자는 즐거움으로 할 것이니라

  if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. 

1.    그 때에 천국은 마치 등을 들고 신랑을 맞으러 나간 열 처녀와 같다 하리니

  "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

2.    그 중의 다섯은 미련하고 다섯은 슬기 있는 자라

  Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

3.    미련한 자들은 등을 가지되 기름을 가지지 아니하고

  The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.

4.    슬기 있는 자들은 그릇에 기름을 담아 등과 함께 가져갔더니

  The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.

5.    신랑이 더디 오므로 다 졸며 잘새

  The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6.    밤중에 소리가 나되 보라 신랑이로다 맞으러 나오라 하매

  "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'

7.    이에 그 처녀들이 다 일어나 등을 준비할새

  "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.

8.    미련한 자들이 슬기 있는 자들에게 이르되 우리 등불이 꺼져가니 너희 기름을 좀 나눠 달라 하거늘

  The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.'

9.    슬기 있는 자들이 대답하여 이르되 우리와 너희가 쓰기에 다 부족할까 하노니 차라리 파는 자들에게 가서 너희 쓸 것을 사라 하니

  "'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'

10.   그들이 사러 간 사이에 신랑이 오므로 준비하였던 자들은 함께 혼인 잔치에 들어가고 문은 닫힌지라

  "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11.   그 후에 남은 처녀들이 와서 이르되 주여 주여 우리에게 열어 주소서

  "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!'

12.   대답하여 이르되 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 내가 너희를 알지 못하노라 하였느니라

  "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.'

13.   그런즉 깨어 있으라 너희는 그 날과 그 때를 알지 못하느니라

  "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. 

7. 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 내가 오늘부터 시작하여 너를 온 이스라엘의 목전에서 크게 하여 내가 모세와 함께 있었던 것 같이 너와 함께 있는 것을 그들이 알게 하리라

  And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

8. 너는 언약궤를 멘 제사장들에게 명령하여 이르기를 너희가 요단 물 가에 이르거든 요단에 들어서라 하라

  And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

9. 여호수아가 이스라엘 자손에게 이르되 이리 와서 너희의 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 들으라 하고

  And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.

10. 또 말하되 살아 계신 하나님이 너희 가운데에 계시사 가나안 족속과 헷 족속과 히위 족속과 브리스 족속과 기르가스 족속과 아모리 족속과 여부스 족속을 너희 앞에서 반드시 쫓아내실 줄을 이것으로서 너희가 알리라

  And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

11. 보라 온 땅의 주의 언약궤가 너희 앞에서 요단을 건너가나니

  Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.

12. 이제 이스라엘 지파 중에서 각 지파에 한 사람씩 열두 명을 택하라

  Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

13. 온 땅의 주 여호와의 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발바닥이 요단 물을 밟고 멈추면 요단 물 곧 위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 끊어지고 한 곳에 쌓여 서리라

  And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

14. 백성이 요단을 건너려고 자기들의 장막을 떠날 때에 제사장들은 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞에서 나아가니라

  And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

15. 요단이 곡식 거두는 시기에는 항상 언덕에 넘치더라 궤를 멘 자들이 요단에 이르며 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 물 가에 잠기자

  And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

16. 곧 위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 그쳐서 사르단에 가까운 매우 멀리 있는 아담 성읍 변두리에 일어나 한 곳에 쌓이고 아라바의 바다 염해로 향하여 흘러가는 물은 온전히 끊어지매 백성이 여리고 앞으로 바로 건널새

  That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

17. 여호와의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들은 요단 가운데 마른 땅에 굳게 섰고 그 모든 백성이 요단을 건너기를 마칠 때까지 모든 이스라엘은 그 마른 땅으로 건너갔더라

  And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan. 

34. 예수께서 사두개인들로 대답할 수 없게 하셨다 함을 바리새인들이 듣고 모였는데

  Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.

35. 그 중의 한 율법사가 예수를 시험하여 묻되

  One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

36. 선생님 율법 중에서 어느 계명이 크니이까

  "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

37. 예수께서 이르시되 네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하셨으니

  Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'

38. 이것이 크고 첫째 되는 계명이요

  This is the first and greatest commandment.

39. 둘째도 그와 같으니 네 이웃을 네 자신 같이 사랑하라 하셨으니

  And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

40. 이 두 계명이 온 율법과 선지자의 강령이니라

  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

41. 바리새인들이 모였을 때에 예수께서 그들에게 물으시되

  While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42. 너희는 그리스도에 대하여 어떻게 생각하느냐 누구의 자손이냐 대답하되 다윗의 자손이니이다

  "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" "The son of David," they replied.

43. 이르시되 그러면 다윗이 성령에 감동되어 어찌 그리스도를 주라 칭하여 말하되

  He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'? For he says,

44. 주께서 내 주께 이르시되 내가 네 원수를 네 발 아래에 둘 때까지 내 우편에 앉아 있으라 하셨도다 하였느냐

  "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet."'

45. 다윗이 그리스도를 주라 칭하였은즉 어찌 그의 자손이 되겠느냐 하시니

  If then David calls him 'Lord,' how can he be his son?"

46. 한 마디도 능히 대답하는 자가 없고 그 날부터 감히 그에게 묻는 자도 없더라

  No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions. 

15. 이에 바리새인들이 가서 어떻게 하면 예수를 말의 올무에 걸리게 할까 상의하고

  Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.

16. 자기 제자들을 헤롯 당원들과 함께 예수께 보내어 말하되 선생님이여 우리가 아노니 당신은 참되시고 진리로 하나님의 도를 가르치시며 아무도 꺼리는 일이 없으시니 이는 사람을 외모로 보지 아니하심이니이다

  They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. "Teacher," they said, "we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are.

17. 그러면 당신의 생각에는 어떠한지 우리에게 이르소서 가이사에게 세금을 바치는 것이 옳으니이까 옳지 아니하니이까 하니

  Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

18. 예수께서 그들의 악함을 아시고 이르시되 외식하는 자들아 어찌하여 나를 시험하느냐

  But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?

19. 세금 낼 돈을 내게 보이라 하시니 데나리온 하나를 가져왔거늘

  Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius,

20. 예수께서 말씀하시되 이 형상과 이 글이 누구의 것이냐

  and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"

21. 이르되 가이사의 것이니이다 이에 이르시되 그런즉 가이사의 것은 가이사에게, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 바치라 하시니

  "Caesar's," they replied. Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

22. 그들이 이 말씀을 듣고 놀랍게 여겨 예수를 떠나가니라

  When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
